CUPPING

Traditional Chinese medicine often brings to mind acupuncture, and the use of herbs as natural healing remedies. But cupping is just beneficial and important in traditional Chinese medicine healing modalities.

Cupping evolved from practices that affirmed illness could be “sucked” out of the body, both in Eastern and Western cultures. But recent studies have shown evidence that cupping is super effective in doing just that - sucking illness out of the body!

WHAT IS CUPPING?

Cupping is a treatment where small glass cups are heated up or just straight away applied “dry” to the skin (typically on the back) which causes a suction sensation.

The suction in the cups causes the skin and superficial muscle layer to be lightly drawn into the cup, much like an inverse massage, but instead of applying pressure to the muscle, cupping gently pulls the muscles upward.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CUPPING?

Cupping is therapeutic especially for people experiencing back and neck pain because it relieves muscle tension and reduces the pain in the area in which the cups are applied.

But cupping also helps your body create new connective tissue and blood vessels inside the muscle tissues - great for people who have sustained physical injuries. Cupping therapy also improves blood flow by increasing the blood circulation in the area where the cups are applied. Thus, enhancing cellular repair.

Aside from pain relief and physical injury recovery, cupping also improves your body function by rejuvenating the blood flow in your blood vessels, restoring it to its normal, optimal level.

VARICOSE VEINS

This happens when the veins are stretched for too long because of stagnated blood caused by the valves of the vein becoming weak or damaged. This poor condition of the vein causes the blood to darken (due to lack of oxygen), flow backwards, and pool in one place making the stretched vein pop up on the skin.

Cupping moves the old blood cells out, bringing new oxygenated (lighter colored) blood in. Thus, reducing the appearance of varicose and spider veins.
